What is a Program?
PMBOK defines a Program as a group of
- related projects
- subprograms or subsidiary programs
- other related work or program activities
managed and coordinated in a way to obtain benefits not available by managing them individually.
What is Program Management?
Program Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools & techniques to a program in order to meet the program objectives and to obtain benefits and control not available by managing the program components(related projects, subprograms, and program activities) individually.
The Program approach focuses on inter-dependencies between the program components and may help achieve decreased risk, economies of scale, and improved management.
Program management mainly involves aligning the program components properly so that
- program objectives are achieved and
- program benefits are optimally delivered.
